Grey District is the start/finish of the West Coast Wilderness Trail. Part of the NZ Cycle trail network that starts in Greymouth opposite the train station and finishes some 139kms later in the small West Coast town of Ross. It is grade 2 – manageable by most with reasonable level of fitness.
We have our "explore by bike" package available with advance notice to take advantage of this great trail.
We can organise a rental bike/helmet, transport of yourself and bike to the inland village of Kumara for you to then bike back to Greymouth at your leisure. This is a lovely ½ day option encompassing some of the best scenery the trail has to offer. Follow the historic Kumara bush tram through regenerating forest and farmland to the Taramakau River, and then along the edge of a tidal lagoons and coastline with great views of the Tasman Sea before bringing you around the fishing port and along the Grey River into Greymouth back to where we left your car.
