West Coast Wine Challenge
The Greymouth Gourmet and Guzzlers’ Group (4G’s) presents the eighth West Coast wine challenge at Shantytown October 17th at 2pm.

Best costumed, best expression of the theme, best team name, most audacious, the prizes go on and on. This year’s theme is “Down… but not out!” – go for it!
A white flight, a bunch of reds, mystery wines and unusual West Coast challenges make up the day, rounded off with dinner and entertainment in the evening. Set in the bush at Shantytown, the West Coast Wine Challenge is a unique way of joining with other wine tasters and enthusiasts for a great day.
Teams of four are the norm, with an entry fee of $300, covering dinner, entertainment and an array of interesting wine. Partners can come to after-challenge function for $40.00 dinner and entertainment.

A Day at the Beach
From September 1st to the 24th 2009, an action-packed lineup of inspirational events is unfolding along one of the most iconic coastlines in the world - the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island.
The Festival brings together a fine assortment of entertainment, education, adventure, and engages in powerful positive action for the environment.
The Festival unfolds through a sequence of exciting events called Beach Days & Wild Nights - imagine arts, live music, local food, beach cleanups, native tree planting, competitions, film screenings and more. The events are linked in sequence by a small group of passionate young New Zealanders who are doing a massive 350km walk along the coastline - from Karamea in the north, to Franz Josef in the south. But you don't have to be an extreme adventurer to get amongst the excitement! Check out the website for details on how you can participate A Day at the Beach

Round Brunner Road Cycle Race
Around Brunner is a 130 km sealed circuit cycle ride taking you through some
of the most stunning scenery the West Coast of New Zealand has to offer.
It all starts where the mighty Grey River heads out to sea in Greymouth after its journey through the Southern Alps. From here it heads back towards the mountains before turning and travelling through the stunning scenery of Lake Poerua, Rotomanu and Moana - nestled between the spectacular Southern Alps and Lake Brunner. Climbing out of Moana, cyclists follow an undulating and winding course through Arnold Valley to Stillwater. A flat ride beside the banks of the Grey River takes cyclists back to Greymouth.
Cyclists can enter as individuals, as two person teams doing half the course each or ride it on a tandem. Three individuals can also combine their times just like a professional team to record a combined team time as well as their individual time.
